President John Adams: Set Apart

July 20

President John Adams

“Old minds are like old horses; you must exercise them if you wish to keep them in working order.”
President John Adams

Life cycles around like a carousel. It’s difficult to say when I want to get off and when I want to stay. The scenery changes but not for long. Pretty soon everything runs together and begins to look the same.

So what sets us apart? Because the truth is this, believer or not, we’re all riding the same ride. It’s easy to get use to the ride, because it’s not scary and it’s not all that fast – usually. And I can get comfortable in the comfortable ease of the carousel going around and around. It’s predictable and seemingly safe. But God’s not on the carousel… because God has places to go, things to accomplish and people to save through His Son, Jesus. And carousels… well, they never go anywhere. They just keep going ’round and ’round and around. Get off the ride. Get to work. Set aside your selfish desires and begin taking care of the tasks that God has placed before you, today. Sometimes the tasks are the little things, like fine-tuning ourselves more completely into His Holy Spirit and sometimes these are the most important tasks the Lord puts before us. We will never learn how to walk and live according to God’s Holy Spirit until we get of that carousel.

Peace, Sean Gutteridge

Galatians 5:22-26

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
