Oswald Chambers: An Irresistible Future

September 8

“Let the past sleep, but let it sleep on the bosom of Christ and go out into the irresistible future with Him.” Oswald Chambers

Paranoia runs wild, and once that train leaves the station, it’s difficult to stop.

Stop your crazy thinking today and know this: your enemies will be brought to heel under the might of the Almighty Lord. But don’t search out to discover your enemies; don’t even desire to contend with them, making schemes and strategies to overwhelm them. Simply go about the business at hand and pay them no heed. So often, those I perceive as my enemies are nothing more then distractions; more often they aren’t even enemies at all. I’m confident, however; that when the time comes for me to face my true enemies I will be able to confront them with such clarity and understanding that even what must be done will be as clear as day… and I will be victorious against them.

I think we focus so much on who seems against us that we miss the true tasks God needs us focused on. I’ve been guilty of too quickly targeting anyone who disagrees with me on the slightest things as enemies that I miss potential growth opportunities which God has brought to me through other messengers. In my paranoia, I fail to hear or see what God is doing next in my life or even where He might be trying to take me. Someone who disagrees with me shouldn’t be automatically thought to be an enemy. And those who criticize me or may be critical of how I’m doing certain things are not always adversaries. They may not be right, either, but there is always the possibility that within their criticism, there could be some Truth in what they are trying to articulate. Ultimately, if I Trust God’s voice… if I’m truly seeking His guidance, I will always find Him and His leading and His direction – even when hidden in the criticism of others. Indeed, it is just as equally dangerous to be surrounded by those who only extol and exalt you just as much as always hearing the nay-sayers. It takes wisdom to hear Gods voice in the midst of both groups… fools will be found in abundance, in either case. Let God be your refuge and let His voice abound, loudly. Listen for it and let Him content with all the rest. Don’t let those fools block you from entering that irresistible future with the Lord!

Today’s ScriptureIsaiah 28:14-23

14 Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scoffers, who rule this people in Jerusalem!

15 Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have an agreement, when the overwhelming whip passes through it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter”;

16 therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’

17 And I will make justice the line, and righteousness the plumb line; and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overwhelm the shelter.”

18 Then your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol will not stand; when the overwhelming scourge passes through, you will be beaten down by it.

19 As often as it passes through it will take you; for morning by morning it will pass through, by day and by night; and it will be sheer terror to understand the message.

20 For the bed is too short to stretch oneself on, and the covering too narrow to wrap oneself in.

21 For the LORD will rise up as on Mount Perazim; as in the Valley of Gibeon he will be roused; to do his deed-strange is his deed! and to work his work-alien is his work!

22 Now therefore do not scoff, lest your bonds be made strong; for I have heard a decree of destruction from the Lord GOD of hosts against the whole land.

23 Give ear, and hear my voice; give attention, and hear my speech.
